Women's Recovery Program

Isaiah 61:3 The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me to comfort those who mourn, to give them Beauty for ashes, the oil of Joy for mourning, the garment of Praise for the spirit of heaviness.

In 1993, Charlie Sharpe was driving in a Ford Pickup by the lake on the property, which is now known as Heartland, when God grabbed his attention. Charlie had long been disturbed about the fact that America was losing her youth. Now God challenged Charlie to do something about it.

In May of 1995, Heartland was born from that earlier encounter in the middle of Northeast Missouri cornfields. Today, the growing ministry includes recovery centers and group homes for men, women, and children. It is a place where people can experience the restoration of their broken lives through a relationship with Jesus Christ.

Work Ethic

Heartland is dedicated to helping people experience peace through Christ and to help them become assets to their communities through education, work programs, and vocational training.

Staff members stress a high standard of spiritual excellence expressed through the kind of strong work ethic the Bible describes.

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as work for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. Colossians 3:23-24

Our desire for all who come to Heartland is a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We want to see people develop lifelong wholeness and Christ-esteem, with a strong work ethic. The program is guaranteed to work under the condition that you take the medicine required: hard work, Biblical teaching and an open heart to Jesus Christ.

Discipleship

Heartland introduces the concepts of Christian living and personal responsibility. The Christian life is not abstract theology unconnected with life, but has practical implications, which will affect how we choose to behave each day. It is not enough merely to know the gospel, we must let it transform our lives and let God impact every aspect of our lives. The women have a daily devotional time with their house parents or dormitory leaders. They attend Heartland Academy Community Church Sunday morning, Sunday evening, and Wednesday evening. In every area of ministry, these ladies see living examples of what it means to follow Christ daily.

The women work at various jobs in the ministry and are paid an hourly wage. They also participate in preparation of meals and daily chores to maintain and clean the house.

The women are involved with all church functions through out the week. They also have personal studies which they are required to do, and have various classes and Bible studies through out the week. The desired outcome for all who come to Heartland is a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, developing lifelong wholeness and Christ-esteem. Heartland is not a lock-down facility. No woman is forced to come here or to stay. We provide a setting for women who want to permanently change their life through the knowledge of Jesus Christ.

For He looked down from His holy height; From heaven the Lord gazed upon the earth, To hear the groaning of the prisoner; To set free those who were doomed to death. Psalms 102:19-20
